TransAmerica Trail Day 7
07/24/18 – The rain finally let up today and the wildlife got much tamer (just cows, armadillos and butterflies) today! We left Tennessee, rode through Mississippi, crossed the Mississippi River and entered into Arkansas.

07-23-18 The rain never goes away. Today showers sprinkled us just often enough to keep us damp all day. However, the camp site for tonight is very nice. It is lake side with firewood and showers, all we could ever need. We also saw a dead armadillo in the road today. I didn’t think those were in Tennessee.
7-23-18 – Some cool footage from Henry’s GoPro on Day 5 of the TransAmerica Trail. Video from TAT Day 5
07/22/18 – Another day of torrential rain and thunderstorms, we were in the clouds while it rained and unfortunately my dad’s rain gear fell off his bike somewhere on the last leg. We grabbed a hotel tonight at the hotel Key West (definitely not Key West), but another cool day on the trail with cool pics in between the down pours.
07-21-18 Today brought the roughest trails yet filled with round, slick and wet rocks and mud. The previous nights thunder storms left our camping gear soaked and delayed our start on the day. However, things dried up quickly as the sun came out. We took a few roads today that we weren’t supposed to but it paid off. Those mountain back roads gave the best views and trails. The picture below was posted at the base of a mountain road we went up saying “Your GPS directions are incorrect this road is NOT PASSABLE”. We got through just fine. 🙂
07/21/18 – This is Kathy (Henry’s mom) posting for the boys. They made it last night to the campground, but had no wifi signal, so I only got the satellite post below. They called this morning though and they’re back on day 4 of the trail maps (if you’re following along). Lots of rain last night, so they’re a little wet, but they said the trail is amazing and hopefully they’ll have good pics to post when they can get a signal.
07/18/18- On the 300 mile ride from Edenton, NC to Home (Woodleaf, NC), we met some interesting people along the way. The bolt that holds the spring on my kickstand fell off, so we stopped in Henderson, NC at a KTM dealership for a quick fix. We also stopped at a small state park on the way back, here is a picture below.
07/17/18 – We started our first leg of the TransAmerica Trail today from Kitty Hawk this morning with a great send off from my Aunt Ellen and Uncle Johnny (Zach’s dad)! And we made it to our first planned stop in Edenton, North Carolina just before dark. I was thinking this would be an uneventful first day, but definitely not….I dodged a bear cub, saw a snake and not one, but two alligators. Unfortunately, the GoPro wasn’t on, so I have no proof, but you can’t make this stuff up!!! Video Link
Last night a little send off from the family with pizza, cake and ice cream. And today, my Aunt Ellen and Uncle Johnny (Zach’s dad) are helping us trailer our bikes to Kitty Hawk, NC. Tomorrow is day 1 of the TransAmerica Trail!
Welcome to the Memorial Moto TransAmerica Trail blog honoring my cousin Zach. This month my dad and I are heading out from Kitty Hawk North Carolina on a 30 day journey across country to Coos Bay, Oregon on the TransAmerica Trail. We’ll travel over 6000 miles across the United States.
